Message of Wondering Wolf

Hi, I have watched the interview with Wondering Wolf on august 2010 in Hungaria. According to him 2012 is not the enddate of this period but it may be taking 40-50 years more before we reach that point. He also said that the exact date was not known. Now I am wondering: the Mayas are known as the timekeepers and have very accurate calendars. How is it possible that the do know all these periods of 20 days, 360 days etc but don't know when their long count calendar ends?? This really puzzles me.....
